Celebrities are known for breaking and bending style rules, so it should come as no surprise that several skirted tradition on their wedding day and wore a colored wedding dress. From saffron yellow to lilac and shades of black, a vibrant color is one of the best ways to make a wedding dress stand out. Unsurprisingly, big personalities like Gwen Stefani and Amber Tamblyn went the way of a non-white gown. The bold hues speak volumes about personal style — and that's one of the things we like the most about them.
But it's not just daring trendsetters choosing to say "I do" in a colorful gown: Stars who are known for their signature classic style — including Reese Witherspoon andAnne Hathaway — also walked down the aisle wearing a non-white wedding dress.
Most recently, Alison Pill wore a retro yellow dress to her Memorial Day wedding, while Kaley Cuoco Sweeting donned a custom pink Vera Wang gown for her wedding, and it perfectly encapsulated her bubbly, outgoing personality. Andfashion maven Jessica Biel shocked everyone when she married Justin Timberlake in a petal-pink Giambattista Valli wedding dress in October 2012.
These brides are just the latest in a series of women walking down the aisle in vibrantly-hued wedding dresses, a trend arguably popularized by the yellow chiffon frock Elizabeth Taylor wore to marry Richard Burton (the first time) in 1964.
With colored wedding dresses populating bridal fashion week runways like crazy, we tracked down our favorite pink, purple, yellow, and black bridal gowns worn by celebs. Click through to see which ladies weren't wearing white when they tied the knot.

Alison Pill
For her Memorial Day wedding weekend, Alison Pill opted for a retro look, rocking a sunflower yellow vintage dress with short sleeves, a square neckline, and ruffles along the bodice. The ankle-length gown was complemented by Pill's pitch-perfect tight ringlets and bright red lip.

Kaley Cuoco Sweeting
The custom pink Vera Wang confection that the Big Bang Theory star wore to marry Ryan Sweeting at their New Year's Eve wedding strongly evoked Wang's Fall 2014 runway collection, which she designed in shades of pink. Cuoco donned the strapless tulle ball gown with a sweetheart neckline for the ceremony before changing into a shorter red dress for the reception.

Keira Knightley
The actress is apparently a huge fan of the knee-length blush pink tulle Chanel frockshe wore to marry James Righton in May 2013. Her wedding was one of three times she stepped out in the adorable dress! For her nuptials in the South of France, she paired her favorite piece of clothing with a Chanel jacket, matching flats and a sweet flower crown. Sadly, she later admitted that she's "ruined" the dress. What a shame!

Shenae Grimes
Grimes played a high school student on the reboot of 90210, but the Vera Wangdress she wore to marry fiancé Josh Beech in May 2013 was anything but childlike. For their London wedding, Grimes walked down the aisle in a black gown with a tulle skirt and halter neckline paired with romantic-goth touches including a red rose bouquet and brooch-accented updo.

Jessica Biel
Many were shocked Biel didn't wear white to marry Justin Timberlake in Puglia, Italy in October 2012, but the actress stunned in a voluminous, petal-pink Giambattista Valli wedding dress. The custom-made creation echoed a different design from Valli's spring 2012 haute couture collection. Biel made the look bridal by swapping the runway's red color for the more feminine hue and toning down the dramatic silhouette — her Audrey Hepburn-esque hairstyle and flowing veil helped as well.

Amber Tamblyn
Tamblyn and husband David Cross are an offbeat couple, and the dress she wore to their October 2012 wedding exemplifies that: "It was marigold, and it had a train in the back that was cream," Tamblyn told Us Weekly of the frock. "There's nothing really traditional about me." We'd say that's an accurate statement considering she showed up to their wedding in a canoe and exchanged vows in a clearing in the woods.

Valentino Garavani came out of retirement to design his muse's wedding dress for her September 2012 wedding to Adam Schulman. The gown featured a gauzy, tulle overskirt and an elegant off-the-shoulder-neckline fashioned from the same fabric, all imbued with shades of blush pink. The dress, plus her lacy headpiece, created a dazzlingly romantic and whimsical look.

Hollywood's resident Southern belle looked every bit the sweet Tennessee girl in acustom blush Monique Lhuillier wedding dress when she married Jim Toth in March 2011. Also worth noting: Her bridal gown matched the maid-of-honor dress Lhuillier designed for Witherspoon's daughter Ava.

For her first wedding to longtime love and Cleopatra co-star Richard Burton in March 1964, Taylor went for a mid-'60s mod vibe in a short yellow chiffon frock and floral headdress. She finished off the look with an emerald brooch; one of the many jewels Burton gave her throughout their stormy relationship.
